About Chopticon Middle School

Chopticon High School, Home of the "Braves," is a rural community school of 1,715 students that focuses on 'P.R.I.D.E." (Participation, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Encouragement) in action from all. Our school promotes academic achievement, personal responsibility, and independent thinking so that students will have the skills and habits necessary to be college and or career ready.  Our efforts this year will focus on improving student achievement and attendance by continuing our focus on initiatives we began in 2018-19.  We believe we have been successful in enhancing the culture of our school and hope that our work in this area will ultimately result in an increase in the academic achievement of our students. Collectively, we work to ensure that we are providing a personalized learning environment that promotes the academic, social, emotional, and personal success of every student. We are equally committed to providing a supportive learning and working environment that reinforces the importance of the health, safety and wellbeing of each student and staff member. Our goal is to create/maintain a culture where students and staff feel valued, respected, and are motivated to work and learn.

Mission:

Chopticon HS staff works in conjunction with SMCPS basing all of our work on the Whole Child Tenents. Our work together to create a whole child approach ensures that each student is healthy, safe, engaged, and challenged. Whether it’s instruction, school climate, leadership, family engagement, or any other issues we face on a daily basis, our school system and our schools combined efforts set the standard form comprehensive, sustainable school improvement and provide for long-term student success.

Vision:

At Chopticon High School we are student-focused, mission driven and goal-centered. With an overarching commitment to equity and success for all students, we aim to close the achievement gap within our subgroup populations and work to ensure an equitable and respectful learning environment for every student, family and staff member. We know our learners and the learning and expect excellence in both.

Key Strenghts:

"1. CHS promotes academic achievement, personal responsibility, and independent thinking so that, upon graduation, students have the skills and habits necessary to be college and career ready.
2. Chopticon offers two academics (AOF/AVPA) which serves students throughout the district. The academics provide two specific programs of study that focus on developing skills and talents that will help students succeed in academic and career pursuits.
3. Our staff focuses on students as individuals and use data to drive instruction while also building relationships to promote success of the whole child.
4. We have created a positive working/learning environment for students and staff which is evidenced by the 2018-10 MTSS data review.
